c.1957 Yoshiya, Friction Powered Atom Robot in Original Box

c.1957 Yoshiya, Friction Powered Atom Robot in Original Box

Awesome crank-wind, gyro driven, friction powered Atom Robot in super high grade excellent+ to near mint condition complete with scarce original color box. All tin litho with bump and go movement and free swinging arms.

Classic blockhead skirted robot extensively embossed on all four sides. Richly detailed with multicolored "technological doo-dads". Single piece mouth and nose are embossed and chrome plated. With original red plastic button eyes. Base underside includes multidirectional rotating plate with solid rubber friction wheels. Second pair of stationary plastic wheels towards the rear. Features an unusual crank-wind mechanism with internal, weighted gyro. Similar to some of the old flywheel powered tin litho penny toys.

Box lid has a terrific color illustration of the robot with arms raised, walking across a lunar surface. Smaller and less detailed portrait on the side aprons. The box is especially difficult to find because the crank handle would perforate it so often that eventually it would just fall apart.

Size: 6-1/2".
